WHAT IS ANIMAL FLOW?
Animal Flow is a ground based movement class, made fun, challenging and effective.
To practice, you flow from one position to another, opening up the body and using stabilising muscles.
Using only bodyweight, Animal Flow is a fluid way of moving that can enhance strength, stability, and mobility, and for some people, it’s a form of meditation.
IS IT RIGHT FOR ME?
If you are wondering if an Animal Flow class is right for you, here are a few specific examples of how it can help different types of people, their lifestyles and occupations…

Desk Jockeys
If you spend long hours working at a desk, you might live what health professionals call a ‘sedentary lifestyle’; spending long hours sitting, perhaps hunched over a computer causing joint imbalances and pain at the end of the week (stiff neck, back ache). When we sit or stay in the same position for long periods of time, some muscles and fascia can become shortened and tight while others become long and weak. Animal Flow redresses the balance, with movement in all directions to alleviate tightness and tension gained from sitting for too long.

Weekend Warriors
We all have busy lives, right? And this can often mean that we have limited time for a varied training routine – often choosing to throw everything into our favourite form of exercise (be it running, cycling, football etc) and neglecting the rest, especially mobility. Focusing too much on one thing can cause injury as we over exercise certain muscle groups while neglecting others. A scheduled Animal Flow session once a week with ‘homework’ drills can pay great dividends for injury prevention, to allow more time to train for your favourites in the long run.

Injury Rehabers
You may have often heard the term ‘motion is lotion’? This is because when recovering from an injury, you need to be moving as soon as possible afterwards (once it is safe to do so). As Animal Flow is a bodyweight exercise it is a safe way to mobilise the body and allow the joints to move through the necessary planes of motion to allow muscles and fascia to extend and contract fully. The movements can be regressed to accommodate limited range of motion soon after an injury… and it’s also great for injury prevention!

Chronic Pain and Autoimmune
From personal experience over the past couple of years Animal Flow has helped me to restore some of the mobility lost through rheumatoid arthritis and in turn reduced my pain levels. The movements can be regressed to help all individuals along their journey no matter what the starting point is. The movements will allow stagnant fluids in the body (inflammation) to flow and reduce inflammation and pain.

Balance and co-ordination issues
Especially for the elderly and MS Sufferers, learning new movement patterns can fire up unused muscle groups to assist with balance and co-ordination. It also greatly benefits the neurological system as your body communicates better with your brain through proprioceptive organs.

Athletes
Animal Flow improves mobility, agility, co-ordination and helps prevent injury by balancing out tension in the body to allow better joint range of motion.
